Phosphoric acid
Phosphoric acid (H₃PO₄) is a colorless, transparent solid crystal at room temperature, with a melting point of 42°C. Similar to the crystallization process of other liquids, the crystallization of phosphoric acid is a physical change rather than a chemical change. Its chemical properties remain unchanged during the crystallization process, meaning that this process does not affect the properties of phosphoric acid itself. After crystallization, phosphoric acid can still be used normally when melted by heating or dissolved by diluting with warm water.

Application Fields
Food Industry: Phosphoric acid is a food additive that can be used as an acidity regulator and a yeast nutrient in foods, commonly found in carbonated beverages such as cola. Phosphates are also important food additives and can serve as nutritional fortifiers. Food-grade phosphoric acid is used to acidify various foods and beverages (such as cola and jams), giving them a rich or tangy taste, while also acting as a preservative. Soft drinks containing phosphoric acid (including Coca-Cola) are sometimes referred to as "phosphate soda" or "phosphate beverages." Phosphoric acid in soft drinks may cause tooth erosion and may also promote the formation of kidney stones, especially in individuals with a history of kidney stones.
Agricultural Industry: Phosphoric acid is a key raw material for the production of important phosphate fertilizers. Its application in the agricultural field is not limited to fertilizers; it is also an important raw material for the manufacture of feed nutrients, which helps promote animal bone growth and improve reproductive ability.
Industrial Industry: Phosphoric acid is an important chemical raw material with the following main functions:
- Metal Treatment: It treats metal surfaces, forming an insoluble phosphate film on the metal surface to protect the metal from corrosion.
- Chemical Polishing: Mixed with nitric acid, it acts as a chemical polishing agent to improve the smoothness of metal surfaces.
- Chemical Raw Material: As a chemical raw material, phosphoric acid plays an important role in the production of detergents, insecticides (such as phosphate esters), and phosphorus-containing flame retardants.
Medical Industry: Phosphoric acid has important applications in the pharmaceutical industry. It is used to prepare phosphorus-containing drugs, such as sodium glycerophosphate, which are widely used to maintain electrolyte balance in the body. It also serves as a basic component of various drugs, with effects of improving metabolism and supporting nervous system function.
